Fifth Sunday of Easter

The Way, The Truth and The Life

Jesus call

The Gospel for this Sunday (John 14:1–12) opens with Jesus’ tender words: “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” He speaks these words on the eve of His Passion, knowing the fear and uncertainty His disciples will soon face. In their confusion, Thomas and Philip ask for clarity: they want to know the way, and they want to see the Father. Jesus responds with one of the most profound revelations in Scripture: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
This is not just a statement about direction, but it is an invitation to relationship. Jesus doesn’t merely point us toward the way, but He is The Way. To follow Him is to walk in trust, even when the path is unclear. To know Him is to know the truth that sets us free. To remain in Him is to share in the life that never ends.
The First Reading (Acts 6:1–7) reminds us that the early Church faced challenges too: disagreements, growing pains, and the need for new leadership. The apostles responded not with division, but with discernment, appointing deacons to serve so that the mission could flourish. This shows us that faith is not static. It grows through service, unity, and openness to the Spirit’s guidance.
Meanwhile, Peter’s words in the Second Reading (1 Peter 2:4–9) calls us “living stones” being built into a spiritual house. Each of us has a place in God’s design, and together we form a dwelling for His presence in the world.
Therefore, what we can do this week is: walk closely with Him, trusting that even when the road is unclear, The Way Himself walks beside us. When anxiety rises, hear Jesus’ voice saying, “Do not let your heart be troubled.” Ask ourselves: are we following Jesus as The Way, or are we trying to find our own path? Offer our hands, our voice, our time in service, in building others up, helping to build the dwelling place of God.

The Right to Recover Act

Help Not Harm Canada

Recover Act- Help Not Harm: Take Action to Support – Bill C-218

Cardinal Leo has written to Prime Minister Carney and to all Members of Parliament regarding Bill C-218 and the rapid expansion of euthanasia and assisted suicide in Canada. These letters can be viewed on the Archdiocesan website. Please e-mail your Member of Parliament, asking for their support of Bill C-218 (The Right to Recover Act), which would amend the Criminal Code to prevent Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) from being provided when mental illness is the sole underlying condition. Without this change, MAiD will be available for those suffering from mental illness alone beginning in March 2027. We are called to offer care, hope, and protection —not death—to those who are suffering and most vulnerable. Write your Member of Parliament today! And ask your MP to support Bill C-218.
