Fifth Sunday of Lent

Lazarus

the raising of LazarusThe Gospel for the Fifth Sunday of Lent invites us into one of the most powerful and hope-filled moments in Scripture, the raising of Lazarus. It is more than a miracle, it is a living proclamation that Jesus is the Lord of life, the One who steps into our darkness and calls us into the light.
Mary and Martha’s grief is raw and real. Their words, “Lord, if you had been here…” echo the cries of our own hearts when life feels unfair, when prayers seem unanswered, when hope feels distant. Jesus does not turn away from their pain, He draws near, He weeps with them. In that moment, we see the heart of God. God who is not indifferent to our suffering, but who enters it with compassion and love.
Then comes the turning point. Standing before the tomb, Jesus declares, “I am the Resurrection and the Life.” These are not just words for the end of time; they are a promise for today. Wherever there is despair, He brings hope, wherever there is brokenness, He brings healing, wherever there is death-in our hearts, our relationships, our dreams-He brings life.
Lent is a journey of transformation, and this Gospel challenges us to ask: What are the “tombs” in my life? What stones need to be rolled away? Perhaps it is the weight of fear, the chains of sin, the silence of a prayer we’ve stopped praying. Like Lazarus, we may feel bound and unable to move forward, but Jesus calls us by name, and His voice carries the power to set us free.
So, as we approach Holy Week, this story becomes a beacon of hope. It reminds us that the God who weeps with us is also the God who speaks life into the impossible. The question He asked Martha: “Do you believe this?” is the same question He asks us now. When we dare to answer “Yes,” we step into a life where even death does not have the final word.
The question is: do we really believe Jesus is the resurrection and the life, especially as we are living in the midst of modern society? What should we do to get out of our tombs, unwrap our fears, and walk in the light of God’s love?

Easter Lilies – Parish Fundraiser

Honour and remember your deceased loved ones this Easter by sponsoring beautiful Easter lilies that will decorate our church altar during our Easter celebrations. Parishioners are invited to participate in this special fundraiser by picking up an Easter Lilies envelope available at the church entrances. Write the name(s) of your deceased loved ones to be remembered. Select the size and type of flower you would like to sponsor. Return the envelope with your donation by placing it together with your Sunday offertory envelopes in the collection basket. Your generous support will help decorate the church for Easter while prayerfully remembering those who have gone before us. Thank you for helping make our church beautiful for Easter.

ShareLife Celebrates 50 Years
ShareLife Sunday is this weekend

Today is ShareLife Sunday. Special collections will be taking place this weekend, March 22. 2026 marks 50 years since Archbishop Philip Pocock made a bold and compassionate decision that would shape our community for generations: the founding of ShareLife. Building on a legacy of charitable giving in the Archdiocese of Toronto that stretches back to 1927, Archbishop Pocock launched ShareLife in 1976—an appeal rooted in the belief that every life matters, at all stages.
Today, his vision lives on through more than 40 ShareLife-funded agencies providing unconditional care to people in need—regardless of religion, background or circumstance and through people like you who make their work happen.
Please give at the parish using a ShareLife envelope, online through at sharelife.org/donate.

Help Not Harm: Support Bill C-218
Help Not Harm Canada

You are invited to visit HelpNotHarmCanada.ca to respectfully contact your federal Member of Parliament, urging them to support Bill C-218 (The Right to Recover Act). This legislation would amend the Criminal Code to ensure that Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) is not extended to individuals who have mental illness. Without this amendment, MAiD will be available for mental illness alone beginning in March 2027. A vote is expected to take place mid-April 2026. Visit HelpNotHarmCanada.ca today and ask your MP to support Bill C-218.
