This Sunday, the Church celebrates Trinity Sunday. The Trinity means Three Persons in One God. This can be difficult to understand. It might seem easier to believe that God is just one person, but Jesus came to reveal to us that God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The most important aspect of the Trinity is the love relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Because they love each other so deeply and are perfectly united in love, within God there is true peace, joy, kindness, goodness, compassion, mercy, and forgiveness. This is the happiness that we long for in life, and it is found in God.
When we understand that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit love one another and are so united in love, then we can begin to see the solution to many of life’s problems. Essentially, many problems in life come from broken relationships. When we do not love God, and when we do not love others as God loves us, problems arise, bringing unhappiness and sadness. But when we love one another as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit love one another, then we will find true happiness in life.
Life is like an echo. Even though we may understand the science behind echoes, the mystery of how they occur can still amaze us. Similarly, the echo can serve as an example of how we find happiness. We are like an echo of God’s love. God created us in love, and we are called to reflect that love in the world by loving others.
It is in loving others that we find true happiness. When we become like the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—who created us and love us—then we, too, must love like God by becoming echoes of God’s love. Life’s problems may be difficult, but the solution is simple: love. While love is simple to understand, it may not always be easy to live out. But when we choose to love, God will help us to become living images and echoes of His love—and in doing so, we will find happiness.
May this celebration of the Holy Trinity inspire all of us to learn and live out the essence of the Trinity in our daily lives.

June – Month of the Sacred Heart

Many spiritually fruitful elements of the modern devotion to the Sacred Heart come from the mystical visions of Jesus experienced by St. Margaret Mary (1647–1690) between 1673 and 1675. In these visions, He spoke to her about His Sacred Heart.:
Make a Holy Hour of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. This was emphasized in the private revelations to St. Margaret Mary. As Bishop Sheen remarked, spending an hour with Jesus is the only thing He specifically asked of us for Himself, when He said in the Garden of Gethsemane: “So, could you not watch with me one hour?” (Matthew 26:40). One can make this Holy Hour with any frequency; Bishop Sheen encouraged priests to do so daily
Read a portion of one of the Gospels every day. This could be the Gospel reading for the Mass of the day, or simply a chapter each day. The Gospel of Matthew has 28 chapters, Mark has 16, Luke has 24, and John has 21—a total of 89 chapters. At the pace of one chapter a day, the entire Gospel can be read about four times a year. Each chapter takes only a few minutes to read prayerfully, providing an opportunity to encounter Jesus and experience the love of His Sacred Heart.
