The Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Faith Challenge

Jesus

The Gospel of Saint Mark for this Sunday is a delight because it shows the family of Jesus believing that Jesus has truly lost His mind. And it shows us Jesus being completely frustrated with what had happened in the temple. Jesus wanted the House of God to be a house of prayer, not a business enterprise.
I think, we can understand that the family of Jesus does not understand Him. Jesus is so different! Jesus is completely caught up in doing the work of His Father and pays no attention to anything else. This looks like insanity to any normal person. Jesus is not getting enough to eat. He is probably not getting enough to sleep. He seems obsessed with healing people. All in all, his family decides that Jesus has lost His mind.
Therefore, Jesus irritates and bothers His family. With the Scribes and Pharisees, it is worse. Jesus seems to have an understanding of the Law that is completely different from theirs. They want to challenge Jesus but recognize how popular Jesus is among the ordinary people. They think that Jesus is possessed by the devil but again fear saying anything like that.
For us, all of this is a call to follow the Lord, no matter what our families or other religious people think about us. We are challenged to do the works of God, to recognize that the fight between good and evil is still going on in our own time. We must also recognize that it is God who is at work and so we can trust that we are being remade in the image of God.
And our reflection is: what do we think, is it more important to our hope and faith in Jesus rather than anything or anyone, including our family and the people around us in our daily lives? Why? What should we do right now?

Living the Gospel by supporting people with special needs

When you give to ShareLife, you help people with developmental disabilities and their family members through an agency called Mary Centre. Here’s how your contribution makes a difference in the lives of those served by this remarkable Catholic agency: “Thank you to all who donate to ShareLife. With each donation we receive, we are able to attain our goals of assisting people in their efforts in building a good life.” – Don Walker, Mary Centre
Transform someone’s life today. Please give at the parish using a ShareLife envelope, online through our parish website or at www.sharelife.org/donate

Marygrove Girls’ Camp/Camp Ozanam for Boys Collection

Happy children playing tug of war and having fun during summer camp

June 8 / 9 weekend

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul operates these two summer camps for boys and girls. Families are not charged a fee for their child to attend either camp. The camps give children a wonderful opportunity to experience nature, meet new friends, and who, most likely, would have no summer holiday. You can support this project by using the envelopes in the pews to make a donation. Thank you for your support.

60th Anniversary Event

Charity food, Food for the poor hungry volunteers offering food

As part of our 60th Anniversary celebrations, the parish will be organizing a Street Patrol on Saturday, July 13th. We will gather in the parish hall at 9:30 a.m. to prepare sandwiches and food bags for those in need. We will then travel downtown and distribute the food to those living on the streets of Toronto. Volunteers are needed to prepare the food bags, as well as to drive downtown. Donations of bread, deli meats, cheese, mayonnaise, granola bars, juice boxes or water will be gratefully accepted at the parish office from July 10 to 12. For more information, please see the parish website or call the parish office.
