The New Covenant: Love as Our Guide
The churches in British Columbia had been allowed to re-open, after the first COVID induced shut down. Attendance required pre-registration, and the doors were closed to late comers. It felt wonderful to be allowed back to our traditional form of worship. I was walking to Mass when I thought I heard my name being called again.
When I turned around, I saw Steve, the panhandler who used to keep an eye on my bicycle. He was running to catch up, so I stopped. He wanted to say hello, to know how I was. We chatted. He was doing okay. After we said our goodbyes I hurried to church, but the doors were locked. For a second, I was sad to have missed Mass. Then I realised: Our Lord was right here, on the street. He was the Love in this unexpected encounter.
In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us that the most important way to love God is through our neighbour. The crowd around Jesus was discussing the importance of traditional sacrifices. The wise scribe did not join the argument. Instead, he stopped and listened to Jesus’ answer into his heart, he was given the grace to understand the New Covenant.
Jesus teaches us to look at the tradition with discernment and to love God through each of our neighbours.

The Shepherds’ Trust
Sunday, November 17, 2024
The Shepherds’ Trust is to raise awareness and collect funds so the elderly priests who have provided and always cared for us have sufficient financial resources to lead a dignified life after many years of ministry.
The Trust supports the needs of retired clergy in the Archdiocese of Toronto who have served for many years.
Through your support of The Shepherds’ Trust, the retired priests are given the dignity of adequate pensions, health care and other assistance in their golden years.
The Shepherds’ Trust, the retired priests of the Archdiocese of Toronto are grateful for your support.

Bundle Up Sunday
The St. Vincent de Paul Society is holding a Bundle Up Sunday on the weekend of November 16 and 17.
Please bring your gently used clothing, shoes and linens to share with others.
A St. Vincent de Paul truck will be in the church parking lot, so please share what you can with those less fortunate.
We will donate or sell these donations to support our outreach efforts.
Thank you for your continued support and generosity!
Book of Remembrance
During the month of November we dedicate more attention to prayer for our deceased brothers and sisters. We have put the Book of Remembrance at the front of the church, and you are invited to record the names of deceased relatives, friends and parishioners in the Book. Each day during November, the morning Mass will be offered for those whose names are in the Book of Remembrance.
Christmas Card Sale
We will be having a sale of Christmas Cards after all Masses on November 10th, 16th and 17th. A pack of 10 cards and envelopes will cost only $10. Payment is by cash only. Net proceeds from the sale will support our Parish Campaign. Please be generous in your support!
