Forgiveness
Today’s Gospel is challenging. When Peter asks Jesus how often he should forgive, Jesus replies that there is no limit to forgiveness. In the parable He uses to illustrate this, Jesus reminds us that, as we are forgiven, so we must show mercy to others. The ungrateful servant in the parable misses this aspect of mercy.
When I was in high school one of our classmates suffered an unthinkable tragedy. Her father was shot and killed at work. Her family was never the same. Later in life, I was in an airport and saw her name on the cover of a magazine. She was telling the story of meeting the man who had killed her father. Since then, she has dedicated her life to advocating for justice and teaching about healing through poetry. Her work continues to honour her father’s memory.
Forgiveness is a messy business. We often hold onto grudges or hurts, rather than confront them. It is not in our nature to simply let go of injustice or pain. Such moments do, however, open a space for healing and transformation: the healing that was an integral part of Jesus’ ministry. If we strive to model Christ in our lives, forgiveness must be part of our mission.
Coming together in communion today, may we be strengthened to forgive as we have been forgiven.

World Youth Day Mass 2026
Join young adults from across the Archdiocese for a special World Youth Day Mass with His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo on Sat., Nov. 21st at our parish of St. Thomas More. Come together for an evening of faith, prayer, community and joyful celebration as we honour Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, and gather as one Church. Admission is free and no registration is required. This Mass is open to all young adults ages 19 to 39. Bring a friend and come be part of the beautiful celebration of Christ the King, faith and fellowship!
