Fourth Sunday of Easter

The Good Shepherd

Jesus Christ Good Shepherd

The image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd is one of the most tender and reassuring in all of Scripture. In today’s Gospel, He speaks of knowing His sheep by name, leading them to safe pastures, and protecting them from harm. This is not the distant care of a hired hand, but the intimate, sacrificial love of one who lays down His life for His flock.
In our world today, where voices compete for our attention and many “false shepherds” promise fulfillment but lead to emptiness, Jesus’ voice remains steady and true. His call is personal — not a general announcement, but a whisper that reaches the depths of our hearts. To follow Him means learning to recognize that voice amid the noise, trusting that His path, even when challenging, leads to joy, peace, and life in abundance.
Therefore, this Sunday invites us to pause and ask: whose voice are we following? Are we letting fear, ambition, or distraction guide us, or are we attuning our hearts to the Shepherd who knows us completely and loves us unconditionally?
Let us live in the truth that we are never anonymous to God. We are seen, known, and cherished — and in His care, we find the pasture our souls long for.
