Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Do Not Be Afraid”

Do Not Be Afraid

This Sunday’s Gospel reminds us of Jesus’ words: “Do not be afraid.” He calls His disciples to trust in God even when the world feels uncertain or threatening. It’s a message about courage — not the absence of fear, but the choice to stand firm in love and truth despite it.
On this Father’s Day, that call to courage takes on a tender dimension. Fathers, and all who take on a fatherly role, are often seen as protectors and guides. Yet, the deepest strength they can offer is not just physical protection, but the steady reassurance that their loved ones are never alone — that they are seen, valued, and cherished.
Just as God the Father knows us intimately — even counting the hairs on our heads — earthly fathers are invited to mirror that attentive love. This doesn’t mean being perfect, but it means being present. It means showing up in the small, everyday moments, offering encouragement when life feels heavy, and modeling trust in God when challenges arise.
So, I invite all of us today, to reflect on: Gratitude for the fathers and father figures who have shaped us; Prayer for those who struggle with fatherhood or carry wounds from it; Commitment to live with the same courage and compassion that Jesus calls us to.
May this Sunday be a reminder that God’s fatherly love is the foundation of all true strength — a love that never abandons, never gives up, and always calls us to live without fear.

A Prayer for Father’s Day

Lord, we thank You for the love, guidance and protection that fathers provide. We are grateful for their sacrifices, both seen and unseen, and for the ways they reflect Your own steadfast love. Bless them for the moments they have been a source of strength, for the times they have offered wisdom and for the countless acts of quiet service they have given to their families.

You create memories that last a lifetime through ShareLife

For many parents, who are unable to care for their children on a full-time basis, summer break brings both mental and financial worry. Agencies you support through ShareLife, such as Marygrove Camp, Office of Catholic Youth, Silent Voice Canada and St. Bernadette’s Family Resource Centre, offer day programs and summer camps that bring children and youth and their parents, much-needed relief.
St. Bernadette’s Family Resource Centre cares for individuals who are facing developmental and physical challenges. At St. Jude’s Academy of the Arts Adult Day Program, adult children with development disabilities are met with patience and empathy. You provide families with peace of mind, knowing that their loved ones are welcomed into a community and safe space that affirms their dignity and worth.
Thus far our parish has raised $42,112.15 for ShareLife. Thank you for your generosity! The campaign is ongoing until the end of this year and, if you haven’t already donated, please do so through our parish website at  www.sharelife.org/donate .
